Speaking of taxes, a Dependent Care FSA allows you to pay for childcare with pre-tax dollars! The contribution limit is going up to $7,500 next year, so it's still pretty low, but it's still very worth it if you have access to one 😅

This is eye-opening in several (mostly terrible) ways, but thank you for making us smarter about the childcare-taxes link. I wonder if The Purse would consider doing a 201-level roundup of tax perks and pitfalls targeted to your readership? The tax code is so labyrinthine, and while of course tax accountants are the experts at navigating it with us, sometimes I'm not sure I'm getting my money's worth from that fee if I don't know what to ask about, what expenses to track throughout the year, how to structure spending or investing to avoid major tax hits, etc. Add a baby and job layoff into the mix, and it feels like the figures that go onto our forms in April are just a giant surprise beyond my control. I'd love to read a piece that offers some knowledge or tools to be more intentional about this!
