Love these write ups! Can totally relate to post-crib bedtime struggles 🫠 Is it just me, or is it hard to remember who is CB1 and CB2? I think it would be easier to read if first names were used.
I loved this chronicle. This is a couple who has done the work to figure out a workable division of labor, and more importantly they have great engagement as parents and both seem to have keen senses of humor. What a joy to read!
This post / family was a joy to read about! I’ve heard about the fair play book from some friends and am definitely motivated to read it after going through this couples division of labor (not dissimilar to my own but slightly more defined)
It’s nice to read about spouses who respect each other. I have to admit, my current situation of married no kids feels challenging with life admin but this seems exhausting! 🥵 Kudos
My heart goes out to you both. Our son did not sleep through the night until 5 years old! We ended up getting him a queen bed so he could sleep, and so could we. We took turns!
Great to read an excellent example of Fair Play in action. We have struggled with implementation as my husband is less on board. Quarterly checkins make a lot more sense. Also really interested to learn more about the wealth building group—any info to share about that would be much appreciated!
Hi there - it’s with Factora Wealth. Full disclosure I was sponsored on IG to talk about them so I want to be upfront when recommending them here. Didn’t tag them in the original post given the circumstances around that.
LOVED this feature! I don’t have kids, but it’s always fascinating to see how couples tackle the admin side of parenting. Thanks for breaking it all down ❤️
This brought back some memories! My kids are 10, 14, and 16 so we are through the bedtime struggles but I do remember them vividly. It's so hard to stay patient at the end of the day when they refuse to go to bed (and especially if they're the type of kid where this is a regular, ongoing thing). Super impressed to read about how this couple has divided their labor - I wish I had read something like this at the start of my parenting journey.
I am always fascinated by day in the life posts--I love this take on it. As a parent of older kids at this point (two in college, one in high school), I would love to see the division of labor of a similar family. Personally, though I am finding some breathing room having only one kid at home most of the year, some of the physical labor has been replaced with mental/emotional labor. I find it more exhausting.
As a parent of an 18 month old and fellow tech worker this was both exhausting and enjoyable to read. A lot of it rang so true! And I also love the idea of dividing tasks based on personal interests / skill sets! Makes so much sense!
This kind of real time how you make it work is priceless! Also appreciate they were able to make Fair Play work for them. I sometimes wonder if Fair Play works best for two parents who both work full time versus those couples where one works full time and the other part time to manage the family but because of that gets overburdened with too many cards (not speaking from experience or anything 😜)
Yeeeeeeesss!! Plus I have a Husband with ADHD (executive functioning deficiency)….so I’ve become a rockstar being the default everything. Sometimes the battle is futile and I’m grieving and processing still. It’s not that he doesn’t want to be able to be reliable it’s just that I will ALWAYS be the project manager and carry 99% of the mental load.

Thanks, Laura! I went back and forth on it, re: their names, but that's good feedback to try next time!

Thank you Julia. 🥰
Thanks for the Double Shift love, Lindsey!
Thank you for mentioning Claire & Ashley’s GoFundMe! I was an ambassador for LGP’s DC chapter years ago when they started out.
And yay for Division of Labor on Substack! 👏🏼
Oh I love that connection, Aliza!

The photo of the milk! 😂 I'm in awe of Catherine and Chris.
I love this! My husband and I are both in tech, so I 100% related to all of this. Never heard of the book but added to my card instantly.

“I start dinner and ponder if we will ever sleep again.” I feel so seen.

I totally understand how you feel but would caution against resigning yourself to that distribution. I've been learning a lot about what seems to make some marriages work since getting divorced, and an equitable division of labor seems to be essential. You can read about one such marriage here. https://open.substack.com/pub/cindyditiberio/p/this-is-the-story-of-a-happy-marriage?utm_campaign=post-expanded-share&utm_medium=web
