What you said about cabins ... my dad has a cabin (very non-luxurious and more of a small, plain house) with a small pond on 40 acres of hunting land, but it’s two hours away so we seldom go there. We’d buy it and move in if we could! But we can’t. So we prioritize making our own home a “getaway.” We’ve done amazing things to our backyard without spending much money. I just had a piece on Medium go viral (https://medium.com/minds-without-borders/we-could-learn-a-lot-about-sex-from-the-dutch-8864066b2d99) and we are going to add one of those small, inexpensive above-ground pools and then modify the crap out of it! It’s a very small splurge and just a tiny slice of the windfall. The rest is going to a family member we help and into savings.
