Hello! I’m taking a page from my friend
’s playbook and trying something new this month: a September recap. Here’s a peek at everything that went on at The Purse, including some thoughts on the highs and lows of building a media business.September flew by, but we still published some must-reads on The Purse.
1. As I was busy managing back-to-school madness and throwing a massive birthday party, I was glad to be able to tap
of for a guest essay on the mental load of making dinner.2. The Purse hosted our first Giving Circle, and it was a rousing success! Katherine and I kept our collaboration going, raising more than $5,000 for North Carolina progressives via The States Project. And it’s not too late to donate! Right now, your money will go even further thanks to matching donations!
3. This month’s Division of Labor featured platonic life partners
and , who are very busy running a business and raising a 1-year-old together in Brooklyn (and writing the newsletter). Speaking of DoL, I’d love to find a same-sex couple to share their story. Know anyone who fits the bill? They can fill out the form here.4. Paid subscribers got an extra edition of Home Economics this month, featuring a family of five living in the Bay Area on $205,000 a year. I enjoyed learning about how their eco-consciousness aligns with their frugality. I always love how saving money and saving the Earth can go hand in hand.
5. We wrapped up September with a free edition of Home Economics, featuring a 35-year-old single woman who still lives at home. I love the comments on this story—more supportive than I anticipated, TBH. The Purse readers are the best! I really believe by showing Home Ec subjects kindness, more women will feel comfortable sharing their stories. If you’re interested, fill out the form here.
